At this stage of my life, I was trying out an artist residency.
It took place in my original country, France, in a converted
school in Paris. I wasn't good at using the studio as artists do
but I met lots of nice people in the streets and became
friend
with Joseph a refugee from Irak whose surname was the
Second Heart. At the end of the 2 months's residency, I organised
a performative screening of my footages of him and other
people I met. It took place across three of the school's rooms and
viewers were invited to walk through the spaces of the school.
The refectory
There, I attached 2 video projectors to robotic hoovers
running on the floor, so they were able to move around the space
and project the footages of my lovers, family, friends strangers
all around the room. I asked two nice women to direct the hoovers.
The classroom
That classroom was actually my studio. I was often dying of heat
up there so
I installed a second video work on the computer screen
of my classmate that played 2 films at the same time from 2 artists
who both produced
a film while dying (Derek Jarman's 'Blue' and Stephen
Dwoskin's 'Intoxicated by my illness')..Then, I installed my hand held
control device on top of a
rotative fan that kept switching the 2 films
as well has moving the air by its rotative movements.
Cinema
The people there had built
a real cinema on the second floor so I decided
to screened Le chat, since it is censured on the web because of
the automatic recognision of footages I used of Simone Signoret from
the original film of Pierre Granier-Deferre, 1971.
The all thing was inviting the viewer to explore 3 different type of cinemas.
